Most bathroom heaters use short-wave radiation to get you warm the second you flip the switch. It works great, but there’s a catch: the light. Those raw quartz lamps can be blinding. That high-intensity glare isn’t just annoying; it can actually stress your retinas. It’s a bigger deal for babies, too, since their eyes are still developing. We didn’t think that was acceptable, so we found a way to tweak the light without losing the heat.
The Trick to “Soft” Light
We basically shift the light away from the parts you can see. By using special doped quartz filaments and specific coatings, we can block out those harsh blue wavelengths and that blinding white glare. The result? A soft, gentle glow. It’s not just about making it look pretty. It’s about stopping too much photonic energy from hitting your eyes. We put a specialized coating on the tube that acts like a gatekeeper—it swallows the aggressive light frequencies but lets the long-wave infrared heat slide right through. You feel the warmth on your skin, but you aren’t squinting.
The Balancing Act
Here’s the thing: you can’t kill all the light if you still want a heater that actually heats. It’s a bit of a tug-of-war between how much light comes out and how efficient the heat is. If we go too heavy on the filters, the heater loses its punch. To fix that, we spend a lot of time dialing in the filament wattage and the surface area to get the balance just right. And because this is radiant heat, it warms your body directly. It doesn’t waste time heating up all the air in the room first. It’s just faster.
Getting it Installed Right
When you’re wiring these into a ceiling, the most important thing is the distance between the lamp and the person standing under it. We provide a minimum mounting height for a reason—we don’t want anyone getting a skin burn. Also, make sure your housing is rated for the wattage you’re using. You don’t want heat soaking into your ceiling cavity, which can cause problems down the road.
