When we design infrared heaters for bathrooms, we’re chasing a specific feeling: that instant, cozy warmth the second you step out of the shower. But there’s a catch. We have to make sure that heat doesn’t mess with your eyes. This is a big deal for babies. Their eyes are more transparent to short-wave radiation than ours are, so we can’t just throw a standard lamp in a ceiling and call it a day. We need the heat, but we definitely don’t want the blinding glare or any UV risks. The secret is in the glass. Most IR lamps put out a wide range of light—including that harsh, bright glare that makes you squint. To fix this, we use special coatings on the quartz glass. Think of it like a filter. It blocks the aggressive blue light and the glare, but lets the long-wave infrared heat slide right through. The result? You feel the warmth on your skin, but your retinas aren’t taking a beating. What’s happening under the hood We use high-purity quartz tubes because they don’t crack when the temperature swings wildly. Inside, the filament is tuned just right. Here’s the thing: if a filament gets too hot, the light shifts. It becomes “aggressive” and moves into those shorter, riskier wavelengths. We carefully balance the wattage so you get a fast warm-up without pushing the lamp out of that safe zone. A few tips for the install Since these live in bathrooms, you’re dealing with a lot of steam. Make sure those IP65 seals are tight. You really don’t want condensation dripping onto your electrical terminals. One more thing to keep in mind: because of that eye-safe coating, the heat spreads a little differently than it would with a bare tube. You might need to play around with the mounting height. You want a nice, steady glow of warmth, not a “hot spot” that feels like a heat lamp at a buffet. And give the unit some breathing room. A bit of venting goes a long way in keeping the housing cool during a long shower.
